I’m not sure where this term originated but I’m going to give credit to Mike Duff (http://www.simpleadaptation.com/) among the people I know he’s the guy who popularized the term.
I did first hear this from Mike Duff but it has since come to cover anytime you wrap one thing in another without disturbing the functionality. In the end - you have something that works but is some kind of compromise just to get by.
@Kyle, I actually freestyled this one in illustrator so there are no sketches, just some weird vector shapes.
@Dan, LOL, yep that’s where I got it too, I remember that conversation like it was yesterday, I think I choked on my water when I heard that. I asked Vince and he told me he got it from Mike.

Sometimes the middle is the crappy thing. Sometimes the outside is. The term works either way since the corn is really no better than the dog anyway.

September 28, 2009 at 2:00 pmAbsolutely fantastic. I’ve been having to do this for the past year and a half. Had no idea there was a term for it.
Beautiful.

September 28, 2009 at 2:00 pm@Josh - No no, putting a new design to old content is dogcorning, totally different.

September 28, 2009 at 2:00 pmFigures Mike Duff would coin “corndogging”. Why am I not surprised?

September 28, 2009 at 2:00 pmThis is fantastic. I love the simplicity of it. I would love to see any preliminary sketches you did also.
